¡¡¡Si!!!!, ¡¡¡es Gustavo Roldán, el ilustrador del cuento de Laura Devetach(El paseo de los viejitos)! Es que hay gente que se anima a jugar a distintas cosas. Ahora le toca aparecer como escritor, ¡y lo hace muy bien!

El secreto de las estrellas es un cuento escrito por Gustavo Roldán e ilustrado por Juan Lima (a ver si lo encuentro a este también como escritor). Relata la historia de un grupo de animales que deciden quedarse despiertos toda la noche para descubrir el secreto acerca de quién apagaba las estrellas. Para descubrirlo, el yacaré le pregunta a don sapo y este a las lechuzas y esta a otros animales hasta que había mil de ellos queriendo saber y queriendo opinar.
Es un cuento para reflexionar sobre como ponerse de acuerdo, sobre la forma de preguntar, investigar y algo sobre los sueños también...Nombra muchos animales autóctonos argentinos y es rico en acciones, como para dramatizar a los animales.

Gustavo Roldán nació en Sáenz Peña, provincia del Chaco, el 16 de agosto

de 1935.

Actualmente reside en Buenos Aires. Licenciado en Letras Modernas de la Universidad de Córdoba. Escritor. Codirector de colecciones de libros para niños de Ediciones Colihue. Traductor. Coordina talleres literarios de escritura y reflexión. Premio Casa de las Américas en 1989.

Hoy: Laura Devetach y El paseo de los viejitos

Me crucé con este librito en otro local donde compro libros de segunda mano. Me gustó el título de entrada. Supe que me iba a gustar y me lo llevé. No estaba equivocada. Es un libro con mucho sentido del humor y está escrito con la ayuda de una amiga de Laura de tan solo cuatro años...y se nota! Se nota porque es una historia de abuelos desde la mirada de un chico. En un momento los viejitos se enojan - ya van a ver, digo, leer- y es muy gracioso porque los dos muy "enfurruñados" sacan los sillones de la casa y se sientan al frente de su casita chiquita, "uno con la nariz para allá, el otro con la nariz para acá". Me recuerda un poco a las peleas familiares...a los testarudos humores de los mas grandes.

Acá va para que lo disfruten...

María Elena Walsh

Creo que era hora de hacerle un pequeño homenaje a María Elena Walsh. Ella inaugura mi rincón de literatura argentina. Porque fue de las más completas: poeta, cantante, compositora, guionista de teatro, cine y televisión.

Así me gusta a mi, que se haya dedicado a tantas cosas y tan bien.

Tengo que ser sincera, no conocía mucho de su biografía, pero gracias a mi querida internet, descubrí que su vida de chiquita se parecía un poco a la mía...tal vez en la mezcla de sangre británica con Andaluza, su sol en acuario -cumpleaños en febrero-, el piano, las canciones, la naturaleza, pertenecer a la "clase media", no haber sido madre (aún mi realidad)....no sé, pero me ayuda a entenderla mejor y a leerla con otra mirada.

"...María Elena Walsh nació en el barrio de Ramos Mejía, en Buenos Aires, el 1º de febrero de 1930. Su papá era un ferroviario inglés que tocaba el piano y cantaba canciones de su tierra; su madre era una argentina descendiente de andaluces y amante de la naturaleza...Tímida y rebelde, leía mucho de adolescente...María Elena Walsh es una verdadera juglar de nuestros tiempos, cuando recita y canta sus versos, pero también, cuando denuncia subliminalmente diversas cuestiones sociales. Toda su rebeldía, su desencanto, su oposición, su amor a la naturaleza y a los niños han quedado reflejados en numerosos poemas, novelas, cuentos, canciones, ensayos y artículos periodísticos."

Walking past the second hand book store...

Today I came across a second hand book store which I had never known to have so many books for kids.
I instantly stood in front of a huge box with printed block letters that read: "English books for kids". The salesman saw me struggling with the piles of dusty -and amazing- books, and brought out a nice little stool for me to sit on while I patiently picked what I liked. These are a few nice stories which I very happily took home....

First book I took home:

THE CRACK-OF-DAWN WALKERS
by Amy Hest, illustrated by Amy Schwartz.(1984).

It´s a beautiful story about a grandparent´s relationship with his granddaughter. The dialogues are very human and touching. It is a beautiful story to work on human relationships and family types. It is also about sharing moments and dealing with jealousy.

If I happened to move you just a bit...do not hesitate and sail on to these websites that will introduce you to her biography. Amy lives in New York, so if you happen to travel to northern lands you might want to check on her workshops as well!

TED ARNOLD

Author and artist Tedd Arnold was born in Elmira, NY on January 20, 1949.

His family lived on a farm in Pennsylvania for several years before moving to Gainesville, Florida. There, Tedd began taking his first art lessons in an abandoned dentist’s office, which eventually led him to graduate with a B.F.A. from the University of Florida. He is married to Carol Clark, a teacher, and has two children. Carol introduced Tedd to the idea of writing and illustrating children’s books while he was working as a commercial illustrator. Tedd’s first son, Walter, inspired his breakthrough picture book, No Jumping on the Bed!, and his second son William its sequel, No Water in the Tub!
He is currently living with his family in Elmira, NY, as a free-lance author and illustrator.

Tedd admits that many of his ideas for books and illustrations stem from things his kids say and do. He takes the idea and then develops it into a larger story. Tedd’s love of children’s books began when he himself was a child and his mother read him Dr. Seuss books. It is no surprise that one of Tedd’s favorite places is the library. Whenever he travels, he likes to visit libraries in different towns and cities. Because Tedd considers authors to be his friends, he says he is never lonely when he’s away from home because he can always find his friends at the library.

Before Tedd became a writer and illustrator, he had many interesting jobs, including soldier, hamburger maker, popcorn popper at the movie theater, worm counter at a fishing tackle store, delivering newspapers, and advertising. He proclaims that he loves his current job the most.

In addition to his wife and children, Tedd’s family consists of two cats, Cody and Friskie. Cody, a white cat, has appeared in many of his books.

Browne grew up in Yorkshire in the '50s. His dad owned a pub and he remembers standing on the bar, telling stories to the punters. But there were times when pub life wasn't so great. His bedroom overlooked a field where men gathered to watch blokes fight - reluctantly. "They were frightened, you see. I suppose I wasn't frightened because, from a distance, it looked quite absurd."

After four years at art school, Browne worked as a medical illustrator - gruesome work but exhilarating. He would sketch while surgeons operated. But at some point he realised he was getting bored. Smiling mischievously he confesses that he began to add tiny figures into his technical drawings. Some illustrations made their way into medical journals. "I think it was a sign that my imagination was starved," he says.
